Unicorn: Warriors Eternal

Genndy Tartakovsky clearly doesn’t sleep, and we all benefit from this. The prolific director/writer/producer/creator (Primal, Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack) is working on a new series: Unicorn: Warriors Eternal. It’s inspired by myths and folklore, and is about unicorns who have to protect the world while trapped in the bodies of angsty teens.

This could not possibly be any more extremely my sh*t.

Here’s the official description, per Entertainment Weekly:

Across the Green Grass Fields

Throughout history, unicorns have symbolized the virtuous, appearing to ensure that goodness reigns. When the reawakening of our heroes comes too early, they find themselves in the bodies of teenagers. Damaged as a result, their memories of who they are and the history of the unicorn over the centuries have been lost, with some of their magical abilities weakened and fragmented. Not only do they have to protect the world against the prevailing darkness, they have to do it while navigating the unexpected laughs and humor that come with teen angst and emotions.

Tartakovsky has worked on everything from the incredibly adorable (The Powerpuff Girls) to the incredibly bloody (Primal, a show that makes me yell “NO HURTING THE DINOSAUR” at the screen at least three times an episode). This new project sounds like it sits squarely in the middle, tonally speaking—sure, they’re unicorn teenagers, but they’re also warriors, so there must be fighting, right?

There’s no release date yet for Unicorn: Warriors Eternal, which is being produced by HBO Max and the Cartoon Network. But it can’t get here soon enough. We all deserve unicorns.
